brought tears to my eyes. I found the temperatures mild, 24 to 27 C, compared
to the 40 to 50 degrees C of Middle Eastern summers. And the people! No
hostile dark frowns. Smiles all around; women passing gracefully by on
the street and in the churches. I was hooked after my first visit. It took
a few years more and a year long stay in Japan for the idea to stay permanently
in the Far East to take hold of me. A Far Eastern friend of the female
